Once again, I can see from the social media spheres that the issue of “right to work” legislation is being discussed.
Apparently, the Legislature won’t be putting up legislation because the Governor won’t sign it.
Oddly, I don’t really have a problem with “right to work” legislation, as long as it is clear that that means a non-dues paying employee must negotiate everything for their employment.
Wages, health care, vacations, everything would need to be negotiated by the employee in writing.
It seems unfair that one should not pay dues, but receive all of the benefits that the union in the shop negotiated.
So, if you want the right to not pay dues, then unions have the right to demand that you not get a free ride.
Oh, and there should be penalties for employers who don’t negotiate. The first thing an employer is likely to do is print a form that appears like a negotiation and have the person sign it. Nope. Can’t do that. And if the employers is caught, they must pay twice the applicable union dues to the union in their shop for every employee they scam on.
I believe you should have the right to choose, but you don’t get to choose the easy way after someone else has already forged the path.
